This exceptional hand-knotted piece from the early 20th century exemplifies the refined aesthetic of Chinese Peking production. The deep indigo field provides a dramatic backdrop for the stylized landscape and architectural elements rendered in soft ivory and lighter shades of blue color rugs.

Unlike typical medallion formats, this rug features a compelling pictorial design, often associated with Chinoiserie wallpaper or porcelain. The central field depicts floating islands, stylized pagodas, and small sailing vessels, creating a sense of tranquil movement. The sophisticated border employs delicate scrolling vines and floral rugs motifs, framing the scene with subtle elegance.

Crafted from high-quality wool pile, the texture is rich and enduring, characteristic of fine early 1900s weaving. Its substantial dimensions classify it among the most sought-after room size rugs, suitable for anchoring a formal living space or grand dining hall where its narrative design can be fully appreciated.

This piece represents a high point in the export market, blending traditional Chinese iconography with a palette appealing to Western tastes of the era. It is not merely floor covering, but a textile artwork, offering a rare opportunity to acquire a distinguished example of antique rugs history and craftsmanship. See less
