This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving presents a classic Peking aesthetic, characterized by its deep, saturated field and balanced composition. Its generous dimensions classify it among highly desirable room size rugs, perfect for anchoring a formal living space or grand dining area.

The central field is dominated by a profound indigo hue, a signature characteristic of fine period Chinese textiles. This rich, uniform expanse beautifully highlights the scattered, delicate sprays of blossoms and the central circular medallion. The masterful use of this deep shade establishes it as a premier piece among blue color rugs.

The design relies on sparse, elegant ornamentation, contrasting the solid blue ground with soft ivory and pale blue accents. The scattered motifs across the field and the intricate corner spandrels feature stylized blossoms and vines, showcasing the traditional Chinese preference for floral rugs that symbolize longevity and prosperity.

Woven from high-quality, resilient wool, this piece retains an impressive pile height and a lustrous patina that only develops over a century of careful preservation. Such pieces are increasingly rare and represent a significant investment in decorative history, securing its place among the finest examples of antique rugs available today. See less
