This exceptional example of Chinese Art Deco weaving captures the transition between traditional Eastern motifs and the streamlined aesthetics of the Jazz Age. The piece is a superb addition to any collection of antique rugs.

The striking color composition is defined by a saturated, expansive field of rich Red, often referred to as 'Chinese Red,' which provides a dramatic backdrop for the delicate flora. This vibrant hue places it among the most sought-after red color rugs from the period. The main field is framed by a broad border of muted, dusty sage green, creating a sophisticated contrast typical of the era.

The design utilizes negative space masterfully, allowing the eye to appreciate the individual elements scattered across the expansive field. Stylized branches, blossoming plum, and small, colorful birds are rendered with a painterly effect, characteristic of high-quality Shanghai production. These elegant, naturalistic designs categorize this piece within the broader tradition of floral rugs.

Woven with a luxurious, thick pile, this carpet retains the supple handle and depth of color expected of early 20th-century Chinese craftsmanship. Given its impressive dimensions, it functions beautifully as a foundational element, ideal for those seeking room size rugs that command attention. This piece is a testament to the enduring elegance of Art Deco design. See less
