In the second half of the twentieth century, richard-ginori's collaboration with italian and international design figures produced remarkable results. Among these was the first-class in-flight service called linea '72, designed by joe colombo and ambrogio pozzi, in collaboration with ignazia favata, for the italian national airline alitalia.
the service, made of porcelain fired at a high temperature to ensure greater resistance to the pieces, features an unusual design that combines practicality, stability, durability, and compactness in a compact space. Perfectly stackable and combinable, the tableware is distinguished by its simple shapes and the cut edges of the plates, which reduce overall dimensions while retaining two side handles. This detail, in addition to being a decorative element, served to allow the various pieces to fit together both on serving trays and on the shelves of cabin wardrobes. A purely functional element is the circular protrusion at the center of the smaller saucer, which fits into the recess on the bottom of the smaller plates and cups, thus ensuring stability.
the alitalia first-class service won the presidential gold medal at the xxxi international contemporary ceramic art competition in faenza in 1973, in the category of utilitarian and functional products.
there are some small signs of use and a crack in one of the two cups (see photo).
the set consists of:
-9 dinner plates
-7 soup plates
-3 saucers
-2 cups
-1 bowl
-6 dessert spoons (produced by pinti inox)
-2 spoons (produced by pinti inox)
