The rounded basket is constructed with tightly woven natural fibers over a rigid framework, creating a substantial yet finely worked form. A removable fitted lid features a darker woven central panel surrounded by a raised border and broader woven band.

The exterior is particularly decorative, with repeating painted scroll motifs encircling the body in warm ochre and golden tones. Additional geometric bands, including a Greek-key-style pattern and zigzag border, articulate the lower portion of the basket. Darker woven accents create further contrast between the decorative registers.

A tall arched carrying handle rises gracefully from the sides of the basket. Formed from slender bent strips, the handle incorporates a woven central grip with repeating geometric motifs, while small painted designs decorate the exposed wood along the sides.

The basket opens to reveal a spacious interior and would work beautifully as a decorative storage piece displayed on a console, chest, shelving unit or large tabletop. Its warm color, intricate weaving and graphic painted ornament give it considerable visual character from every angle. See less
