Tall and architecturally balanced, this antique cabinet combines generous storage with beautifully figured woods and restrained traditional ornamentation.

The cabinet is organized in three sections. A pair of upper doors opens to reveal a storage compartment, while a large open shelf occupies the center. Below, a second pair of paneled doors opens to a spacious interior fitted with a shelf. The doors are particularly striking, their richly figured burlwood panels creating an organic contrast with the straighter grain of the surrounding elm framework.

Traditional circular brass hinges punctuate the façade, complemented by large round central lock plates with pendant pulls. The cabinet terminates in a delicately carved apron incorporating scrolling cloud-like and geometric motifs above straight feet.

With its warm honey-brown color, expressive grain and useful combination of concealed and open storage, this late 19th-century Chinese cabint would work beautifully as a linen cabinet, bookcase or display and storage piece in a living room, bedroom or study.
