The carving is worked in pronounced relief, creating a dense, rhythmic pattern of curling leaves, volutes and floral forms across the length of the panel.

The original decorative surface has aged beautifully, with extensive wear to the gilding and paint revealing areas of the natural wood beneath. The resulting combination of muted gold, faded red and warm brown gives the piece considerable depth and character. Two projecting wooden elements along the upper edge suggest its original incorporation into a larger architectural or decorative structure.

Now removed from its original setting, the panel works particularly well as a sculptural wall-mounted object or architectural fragment. Its long horizontal proportions make it especially suitable above a console, cabinet or doorway. The irregularities, surface losses and patina are integral to its antique character and history.
