This charming carved lacquer (cinnabar) lidded box is shaped like a small apple, complete with a short, thick stem finial on the top. The rich, deep red exterior is deeply carved with intricate, high-relief floral and leaf motifs that cover both the domed lid and the rounded body. The interior is finished in a contrasting dark, glossy lacquer. The piece rests on a flat base. A lovely decorative accent for a desk, vanity, or display shelf.
