The head is carried forward and lowered, with an enormous, softly squared muzzle that dominates the silhouette. Fine incised details define the nostrils, the circular eyes, the ears, and the layered folds gathered at the neck. The surface has a lightly granular, stone-like texture, and a soft gray patina with cooler blue-green undertones deepens the tonal variation across the shoulders and flanks, giving the piece a weathered, timeworn presence.

Playful yet substantial, the hippo suits a console, sideboard, coffee table, mantel, or bookshelf, or a sunroom, entry, or covered garden terrace, where it adds quiet whimsy to Organic Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Contemporary, Eclectic, and Wabi-Sabi interiors. It pairs well with raw wood, plaster, linen, and lush greenery. To care for it, dust with a soft dry brush or cloth and spot clean with a lightly dampened cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals and abrasive scrubbing that could disturb the patina. Lift it from beneath the body rather than by the legs or head. The piece measures 20.25 inches wide, 7.75 inches deep, and 9.25 inches high.

Presented in very good condition, the sculpture shows a consistent patina with minor surface weathering appropriate to its age. Small chips and light abrasions are visible, particularly along the edges, but they do not detract from the overall appearance. It is structurally sound, with no significant damage or repairs noted.
