Two doves, mid-embrace, wings swept up like sails — the Sylvie is less a vase than a small crystal sculpture that happens to hold flowers. In frosted satin crystal with clear polished wings, the birds' entwined bodies form a well at the center, fitted with its original removable crystal flower frog, so a handful of stems can stand arranged among them.
Designed by Marc Lalique in 1956 (Marcilhac no. 969, the "Pique-Fleurs Sylvie"). Marc succeeded his father René in 1945 and moved the house from glass to crystal; where René's work is Deco geometry, Marc's is soft and sculptural — and the dove, Lalique's emblem of peace, love, and fidelity, gets its fullest expression here. Engraved "Lalique France" underfoot — photographed in the last pictures.
Measures approx. 8½″ H × 7¾″ W × 4¼″ D; weighs 5.25 lb. Clear and frosted crystal, made in France; includes the original removable crystal flower frog. Excellent condition — please review all photos, which show the exact item you will receive.
