Large gold palmettes and blossoms on curving vines spread across a dark blue field inside a red floral border. The all-over design has no center, which makes furniture placement easy. It is an eclectic transitional 9x12 area rug in blue and red.
Hand knotted and one of a kind, this wool rug is made from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool, a blend of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The blue of the field and the red of the border come from vegetable dyes extracted from local plants, and gold and brown pick out the smaller motifs. You may notice an abrash in the blue field, a soft shift in shade within a single color. It comes from hand-spun wool taking natural dye slightly differently from batch to batch, and it is one of the signs of a true handmade rug. The curves of the flowers and vines are drawn knot by knot, which keeps their outlines sharp. Once the 9x12 rug is off the loom, the pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried for a natural sheen. What you get is a dense wool pile with a soft hand, low enough to sit neatly under chairs and doors and sturdy enough for busy rooms. The natural lanolin in the wool helps the pile shed dust and resist everyday soiling, so it stays fresh with regular vacuuming.
Use it as a large living room rug, under a dining table that seats eight, or in a great room. In blue and red, with touches of gold and brown, this rug suits eclectic, bohemian, and maximalist interiors, and it brings color to a neutral, modern room. The floral pattern leans transitional and suits cottage and grandmillennial rooms too.
