This Renaissance throne chair in solid oak probably dates from the late 16th or early 17th century. Beneath the seat lies a generous storage box. Chairs of this type were used during religious ceremonies and formal occasions, and later in the great halls of manor houses. The wooden pegs and deep warm patina speak of a largely authentic piece. The seat hinges were added later, probably in the 19th century. Monumental, austere and full of character: a sculptural statement for a grand hallway or living room.

Condition: Very good and sturdy, with signs of use consistent with age. See less
