This highly uncommon and … Read more Rare model 350 floor lamp designed by Franco Buzzi and manufactured by Oluce in Italy, 1950. This highly uncommon and early version of the model 350 floor lamp represents the very first iteration of Franco Buzzi’s ingenious model 350 design. Later editions of this model would introduce subtle refinements, but those adjustments only fully reveal their logic when seen in relation to this original concept. As such, this lamp offers a rare insight into the designer’s initial thinking and experimental approach during the early years of Italian modern lighting. The lamp stands on an exceptionally rare black stone base, a material choice we have not previously encountered on this model. from this solid and heavy foundation rises a beautifully patinated brass stem, supporting two asymmetrical arms of different lengths. Positioned at the center of the stem is an organically sculpted handle, both functional and sculptural, allowing the lamp to be lifted and repositioned with ease. This detail alone underscores the attention paid to tactile interaction and everyday usability. The two arms are fitted with differently sized conical shades, one finished in blue and the other in white. Both shades retain their original surfaces, showing honest signs of age that correspond naturally with the lamp’s history. An elegant mechanical system allows both arms to move up and down simultaneously through a central adjustment knob, while the shades themselves can be rotated independently to direct light precisely where desired. This combination of flexibility and restraint makes the lamp remarkably versatile without compromising its visual balance. The brass displays a rich, untouched patina, reinforcing the authenticity and integrity of the piece. Altogether, this is an exceptionally rare and intelligent floor lamp, highlighting Franco Buzzi’s early contribution to modern lighting design at Oluce. A rare collectors piece that doesn’t surface often.
