A pair of two-light wall sconces in the louis xvi style, attributed to france, combining sculptural detail and a warm golden finish.
each sconce centers on a modeled flaming torch, its flames rising above a fluted shaft. Ribbon details, layered foliage, and scrolling arms complete the balanced composition. The contrast between raised golden surfaces and darker recesses gives the ornament depth.
the workmanship is particularly apparent in the flowing contours of the flames, the articulated leaves, and the architectural definition of the arms. Their compact proportions and shallow projection make them suitable for smaller spaces.
the bodies appear to be gilt bronze, although the precise alloy and gilding technique have not been independently verified.
the pair was subsequently electrified. All electrical wiring and candle sleeves have now been completely replaced, and a grounding connection is present on each sconce. The new sleeves have been toned and antiqued to harmonize with the aged character of the metalwork.
