A charming pair of heavy bronze bookends by Bradley & Hubbard, each measuring just 4¾ inches tall. Despite their compact size, these finely detailed pieces depict sailing galleons from the Elizabethan era (1558–1603), capturing the character and romance of the age of exploration. Their lustrous, gold-toned finish gives them an attractive, almost gilded appearance.
The backs feature molded inscriptions reading “A GALLEON IN THE TIME OF ELIZABETH 1558–1603” and “J.C. 2884.” Both retain their original-looking aged green felt base coverings, adding to their vintage character.
MEASUREMENTS
3 ½ in (8.9 cm) wide x 1 7/8 in (4.8 cm) deep x 4 ¼ in (10.8 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 8.8 oz.
CONDITION
Both galleons are missing their top pennants. There are some wear and age marks to finish, especially along the edges of the bases. Otherwise, they still look shiny and bright. There is wear to the felts.
These handsome bookends combine historical charm with exceptional detail, making them an appealing addition to a collection of antique bookends or a distinctive accent for a traditional library or study.
