In traditional Chinese culture, the cabbage (Baicai) is a powerful symbol of wealth, prosperity, and good luck, as the word sounds like "a hundred ways to make money." This piece is beautifully crafted, with the exterior capturing the realistic, ruffled texture and delicate veins of cabbage leaves, contrasting with the smooth, cylindrical interior base.

Originally designed as a scholar's brush pot (Bitong) for a calligraphy desk, this versatile vessel functions beautifully today as a unique vase for dried florals, a striking desk organizer for pens or brushes, or as a captivating standalone sculptural object. The silver plating has developed a gorgeous antiqued, darkened patina in the crevices, giving it incredible depth and vintage character.
