The vessel is decorated in a striking "reverse" blue and white style, where the background is a deep, mottled underglaze cobalt blue and the motifs are left in the white reserve of the porcelain. The elaborate design includes large, stylized butterflies with heavily dotted wings, surrounded by intricate scrolling peony vines, leaves, and smaller floral sprays. The lid mirrors this design with a matching floral and butterfly motif. The flat, unglazed base reveals a natural, lightly textured finish and bears a reign mark.

Dimensions:

Belly Diameter: 19 cm (approx. 7.48 inches)

Height: 28 cm (approx. 11.02 inches)

Maker's Mark:
The underside bears a six-character mark in underglaze blue, arranged in two vertical columns. The characters read "大清道光年製" (Da Qing Daoguang Nian Zhi), which translates to "Made in the Daoguang Period of the Great Qing." Note: As is common with vintage decorative pieces, this mark is likely apocryphal and serves as a tribute to the classic imperial style. See less
