More About This Item
Few glass patterns are as easy to recognize as Fostoria’s American. The cube motif covers each bowl in crisp, sparkling facets, which catch candlelight and window light and scatter it around the room. Below the bowl, a faceted hexagonal stem rises from a matching six-sided foot, so the geometry of the cubes carries all the way to the base.

At just under seven inches tall, these are generous goblets, sized for water, iced tea, or a big pour of wine. Pressed glass this thick has a satisfying heft in the hand and stands up to regular use. Set the table with all six for a dinner party, or use a pair for weeknight meals and save the rest for holidays.

Glass opening is 1.375."

Fostoria didn’t mark American pattern glass with a signature. The pattern itself serves as the maker’s mark, and collectors identify it by the cube design and the hexagonal foot.

Design Style
American is a classic of pressed glass design. The cube pattern gives the look of deep, hand-cut crystal in a more accessible form, and its geometric structure feels both traditional and surprisingly modern, which is why it has stayed popular for generations. Because it is clear glass, it works with any table, from formal china and linens to casual stoneware and wood.

A set suits traditional, farmhouse, and mid-century dining rooms, and it pairs naturally with other American pattern pieces, such as pitchers, bowls, and serving dishes.

Brand Legacy
Fostoria Glass Company began in 1887 and grew into one of America’s best-known glassmakers, producing both elegant stemware and sturdy everyday pattern glass for homes across the country. The American pattern, introduced in 1915 and made until 1982, became its best-known design and one of the longest-running patterns in American glass. That long run makes it a rewarding pattern to collect, with a wide range of matching pieces to add over time. See less
