This large antique English copper cauldron carries the dense dimpled texture of hand beating, a seamed band around the lower body and a deep brown patina flecked with green. Copper cauldrons were the workhorses of English hearths and kitchens, used for boiling water, cooking and holding fuel, and the brass feet lift this one clear of the floor.

At 18 inches across and 13.5 inches tall, it sits beside a fireplace as a log holder or stands in an entry as a generous planter. Fill it with logs, branches, dried stems or a potted plant, and let the warm copper glow against stone, plaster or dark wood.
