This antique wooden half barrel has the honest, handmade build of a vessel meant to carry grain, nails or provisions. Barrels like this were the everyday shipping and storage containers of the early 20th century, and cut in half they earned a second life as planters.

At 27 inches wide and nearly 14 inches tall, it holds a generous planting or a full season of firewood. Set it by a doorway, on a patio or beside a hearth, and fill it with greenery, logs, throws or magazines.
