A crowned guardian lifts a weapon overhead in this antique Thai carved door panel, worked in deep relief among flowering vines. Scales pattern his skirt, beasts crowd the base, and traces of red paint still cling to the dark, weathered wood. Guardian figures like this stood at temple and palace doors in Thailand to protect the threshold.
At 60 inches tall and about 20 inches wide, the panel reads as sculpture. Lean it against a wall, mount it vertically beside a doorway or hang it above a console, where the carved relief catches the light.
