This set of four 19th-century Austrian bentwood chairs by Thonet exemplifies the elegance and innovation that defined early modern furniture design. Crafted using Thonet’s pioneering steam-bending technique, each chair features gracefully curved beechwood frames that achieve both structural strength and visual lightness—an approach that revolutionized chair making in the late 1800s.
The iconic looped backrests flow seamlessly into slender legs, creating a refined silhouette that feels timeless and architectural. The round wooden seats are richly patinated, displaying delicate surface wear and natural grain variations that speak to their age and authenticity. Subtle incised detailing adds a quiet decorative touch without detracting from the chairs’ clean, sculptural lines.
