Executed in 1974, the composition employs a restrained and subtle palette, with fluid handling of watercolour complemented by expressive ink work. The artist’s impressionistic approach captures the distinctive character of the Dorset landscape and the dramatic silhouette of the castle ruins without sacrificing the spontaneity of the medium. The work demonstrates an appealing balance between architectural detail and loosely rendered landscape, creating a particularly decorative interpretation of one of Dorset’s most recognisable historic landmarks. The painting is dated 1974 verso and is presented within a gilded frame. Presented in good vintage condition, with appropriate signs of age consistent with its date and medium.
