The modelling of the body and drapery-free form gives the sculpture an elegant, naturalistic quality, enhanced by the warm patinated bronze surface. The work is described as after Alfredo Pina (1883–1966), the Italian-born sculptor who worked extensively in France and became known for his expressive figurative bronzes. Pina produced a number of female nude subjects, including seated, reclining and bathing figures. The bronze is mounted on a contrasting marble plinth, giving this compact sculpture a substantial weight of approximately 2.7 kg and an attractive presentation suitable for a desk, console, bookcase or display cabinet. A decorative figurative bronze with classical influence and appealing proportions.
