Chair set is comprised of six side chairs and two armchairs, each featuring an elaborately carved pierced back splat and richly colored faux leather upholstered seats embellished with decorative nail head trim. The chairs feature shaped serpentine crest rails centered by carved foliate ornament. Gracefully curved uprights frame intricate pierced and interlaced back splats composed of scrolling, ribbon-like forms (a decorative interpretation of the traditional Chippendale splat). The two armchairs feature shaped and outward-sweeping arms terminating in scrolling hand rests. Each chair is raised on straight square legs joined by H-form stretchers. The generously proportioned seats are upholstered in mottled cognac and brown faux leather. Particularly attractive is the decorative nailhead trim: rather than a simple straight border, brass- tone nailheads are arranged around the seat aprons in repeating scalloped swag or festoon pattern, creating an unusual decorative detail that complements the historic character of the chairs.
