This exceptional piece exemplifies the luxurious pictorial style of 1920s Chinese Art Deco production. The design is framed by a generous beige cartouche border, allowing the dramatic central field to dominate. It is a stunning example among antique rugs of this period.

The expansive, deeply saturated navy field provides a striking backdrop for a complex narrative scene. The use of this rich indigo hue creates depth and drama, characteristic of the finest blue color rugs from the Art Deco era. A magnificent dragon, rendered in subtle greens and golds, emerges from swirling clouds, dominating the upper quadrant of the composition.

Below the celestial action, the lower register depicts a serene, detailed landscape featuring traditional Chinese architectural elements, including a pagoda and an arched bridge, surrounded by lush, stylized foliage. The palette shifts subtly, incorporating soft greens, corals, and browns that contrast beautifully with the deep ground.

Measuring generously, this textile is categorized as one of the desirable room size rugs, capable of anchoring a significant interior space. The combination of mythological grandeur and landscape serenity, executed in fine wool, makes this Art Deco rug a profoundly sophisticated statement piece suitable for both traditional and modern settings.
