The piece is beautifully cast to depict a gnarled, ancient pine tree (often referred to as a "Welcoming Pine") growing from a rocky outcrop. The tree's twisting trunk forms an arch, from which a small, bulbous censer is suspended by a delicate metal chain. The censer features a pierced, openwork lid with swirling cloud motifs, allowing incense smoke to drift upward through the pine needles. The sculpture rests on a detailed, tiered rectangular base with a decorative lappet border. The entire piece is finished in a rich, dark bronze patina with lighter, polished highlights on the raised details, giving it a textured, aged appearance. The base of the trunk is cast with a distinct, almost reptilian, scaled texture.
