A masterful piece of authentic Southern folk art, this large 10.5-inch studio pottery vase was handcrafted at the historic Turn & Burn Pottery studio in Seagrove, North Carolina. Thrown and decorated in 1995, this rare collaborative vessel represents a multi-generational family effort, featuring the incised initials of both master potter David Bryant Garner (DBG) and his son artisan Jeff McDowell (JLM).
The vessel features a deep, multi-tonal cobalt blue glaze decorated with a magnificent, hand-carved sgraffito botanical scene. One side showcases a stunningly detailed Queen Anne's Lace umbel flower, flanked by intricately incised fern fronds and foliage that expose the beautiful natural cream clay body beneath. The underside is fully documented with hand-incised inscriptions, reading: "Turn & Burn Pottery / JLM / DBG / 1995 / Seagrove, N.C. / John 3:3" alongside the iconic Christian fish symbol. A striking, flawless statement piece perfect for a mantle, console, or elite art pottery display.
