Background on the Artist:
Bernard Hesling was celebrated for pioneering and reviving vitreous enamel art in Australia, creating vibrant, mid-century modern wall plaques, platters, and large architectural murals. His enamel works frequently feature whimsical, historical, or distinctly Australian motifs—such as bushrangers, clowns, birds, and local fauna—rendered in bold colors and dynamic line work.
Platters and plates of this style by Hesling are widely collected by mid-century modern design and Australian art enthusiasts, routinely appearing at major auction houses (such as Leonard Joel and fine art auctions in Australia).
