Decorative snake vase (Schlangenvase) in iridescent art glass. Germany, circa 1980–1990.
The vase is formed as a single rising serpent. A long, tapering neck lifts from a folded, draped glass base and ends in a twisted knot at the mouth.
The neck is green glass with pulled gold threads that tighten into horizontal stripes toward the base. The folded foot shows a darker iridescence in green, purple and bronze.
The form is free-blown and worked while hot: the base is slumped and folded, the neck drawn up and the mouth pinched and turned.
Height 31 cm (12.2 in), width 12 cm (4.7 in).
