A compact vintage triangular side table with a werzalit-marked moulded wood composite top and three tapered wooden legs. Its pale woodgrain surface, softly rounded outline and gold-toned metal edging give the low-slung form a distinctly post-war graphic character.
description
the tabletop follows a rounded triangular outline, its gently curved sides meeting at softened corners. A pale linear woodgrain pattern runs across the surface, while a narrow gold-toned metal edge traces and emphasises the table’s unusual silhouette.
below, three dark wooden legs extend outwards from circular wooden mounting blocks. Their tapered profile gives the compact table a poised, almost tripod-like stance, balancing the broad surface above with a light and economical structure.
its small scale, contrasting wood tones and sculptural geometry make the table visually distinctive without overwhelming its practical character.
design / maker / history
the underside bears the moulded werzalit name together with the word formgepresst, meaning form- or pressure-moulded.
the werzalit process was developed in germany during the mid-1950s. It combined finely processed wood with synthetic resin and pressed the material directly into finished components, including tabletops. Werzalit became the name of the material, the manufacturing process and the company, and the technology was subsequently licensed internationally. Werzalit company history
the table’s organic triangular form, three tapered wooden legs and post-war construction support an approximate date of c. Late 1950s–1960s. This is a reasoned dating rather than a documented manufacturing year for the individual table.
