Catalogued as Set Nine, the works are unsigned and therefore cannot be securely attributed to Maria Rajecka. One of the watercolours bears the date “88”; however, as the pair is stated to originate from a 1950s sketchbook associated with the artist, this inscription is recorded without assuming that it represents a date of 1988. The compositions are executed with a subtle and harmonious use of colour, displaying an impressionistic quality and fluid handling characteristic of the watercolour medium. Together they form an attractive and complementary pair with a distinctive mid-century character. Biographical information relating to Maria Rajecka is retained verso. Both works are presented beneath glass in more recent black frames. Presented in good vintage condition, with appropriate signs of age consistent with their medium and stated provenance.
