This less common chaise chair model features a sculptural cast aluminum frame enameled in a nearly black deep eggplant finish. The frame supports six discrete but connected soft pad black leather cushions over a suspended fabric sling. The cushions are connected by concealed zippers, with two additional loose leather soft pad cushions that can be positioned for head or body support. The distinctive narrow profile and gently reclined form combine innovative engineering with elegant modernist design.

This chaise comes from the collection of internationally renowned artists Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen.

ES106 Chaise Longue
The ES106 Chaise Longue was originally conceived for the Eameses’ friend, film director Billy Wilder, who wanted a narrow chaise for taking short naps in his office. Its unusual proportions were intended to allow the user’s arms to fall naturally to either side upon falling asleep, providing a gentle awakening. Introduced by Herman Miller in 1968, the chaise remains one of Charles and Ray Eames’ most distinctive furniture designs and is represented in the permanent collections of major art and design museums internationally. The ES106 chaise remains in production through Herman Miller, but is currently a special order item.

CONDITION
Excellent vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Leather upholstery is well preserved with a supple appearance and natural creasing expected over time. Minor wear to the frame finish. Complete with both original loose cushions. An impressed manufacturer’s number is present on one of the aluminum crossmembers.
