Two authentic automotive tobacco cards, circa 1930, each depict an automobile and are displayed together in one frame measuring 7.75 × 9.5 inches overall. The cards are mounted on handmade paper and presented within a custom mat created from an original 1930's British touring atlas. The map’s roads and place names form a distinctive surround for the pair, while a warm gold-tone frame completes the presentation.
Tobacco cards began appearing in cigarette packets in the nineteenth century as inserts that helped stiffen the packaging. They evolved into illustrated series collected for their varied subjects, including sport, natural history and the motorcar. Today, these small printed pieces offer an engaging record of the interests and imagery of their era.
This compact framed pair is well suited to a study, library or a thoughtfully arranged gallery wall. It is glazed with glass and fitted with proper hanging hardware on the back, ready to take its place in your home.
You just bring the nail.
