Titled after the commercial fishing trawler at its center, “Miss Phyllis,” the composition uses a dramatic low-angle perspective looking directly up the bow as it navigates deep ocean swells.
Fernendes exhibits remarkable technical skill using heavy, impasto paint applications to realistically render the layered, peeling white paint and rusted iron stains of a hardworking sea vessel. Details include stacked wooden lobster traps on deck, a distant channel marker buoy, and gulls catching air currents off the bow. Housed in its original, multi-dimensional weathered rustic wood gallery frame with an inset linen liner, this striking piece offers unmatched substance and historical texture for premier coastal, maritime, or Americana interiors.
