A stunning cranberry glass match striker in an unusual form. Three small handles protrude from the ribbed sides, evenly spaced and beautifully delicate. The collar is English Sterling, hallmarked London 1899.
Match Strikers are highly decorative, highly collectible pieces of history. Matches were an essential part of every day life during the Victorian era, and so it does make sense that artisans and craftsmen found ways to make works of art to light them. This was well before lighters and match strikers fulfilled a practical need, in a beautiful way. It is rare to find one in such fine condition and such an unusual form. Typically the glass match strikers were clear and typically signs of use are quite evident.
We are proud to have this special piece and know that it will make a lovely addition to the discerning collector's shelf.
