Large Vintage Hand-Painted French Covered Terrine, H. Siegfried, Soufflenheim, Alsace
A cheerful vintage Alsatian covered terrine from Soufflenheim, the pottery village in Alsace known for baeckeoffe dishes and hand-decorated terrines. The oval dish has a honey-ochre glazed ground with hand-painted floral bouquets in blue, pink and orange, and a dark scalloped detail around the rim. The fitted lid has a strap handle and a steam vent. It looks great on an open kitchen shelf, a baker’s rack or a farmhouse sideboard, and it’s a good French country piece to layer with copper, wood and linens.
Signed on the base “H. Siegfried / Soufflenheim.” Siegfried is one of the long-established Soufflenheim pottery families.
A matching smaller terrine is also available in our shop
