This exceptional Chinese Baotou piece showcases the restrained elegance typical of early 20th-century weaving. Its striking contrast between the deep indigo and the luminous ivory field provides immediate visual impact, distinguishing it among other antique rugs.

The central field is richly populated with highly stylized scholar's objects, including vases, books, and an incense burner, often referred to as the "Hundred Antiques" motif. These auspicious symbols are arranged vertically in a balanced, almost grid-like composition, utilizing the limited, yet powerful, palette common to fine blue color rugs.

Structurally, the rug is defined by its complex and layered border system. Multiple guard bands feature classic Chinese geometric patterns, including the prominent Greek key or T-fret design, which frames the main medallion panel with architectural precision. The use of high-quality wool ensures a durable texture appropriate for daily use.

Given its dimensions, this piece is classified as a small scatter size rug, making it highly versatile for placement in entryways, beside furniture, or within intimate studies. The rug's sophisticated design and excellent preservation make it a superb example of early Republican Era Chinese textile artistry. See less
