The Hakata Doll, one the fine Japanese arts, is a product of Fukuoka prefecture, and was officially designated as a traditional national art by the Government in 1976. The origin of Hakata dolls was in 1600, when many craftsmen gathered in the area with the move of feudal lord Kuroda Nagamasa(黒田長政) to Chikuzen(Fukuoka Prefecture) to rule.
This stunning doll, made from white clay and weighing approximately 2 lbs., is exquisitely handpainted in browns, gold, black and orange and has its own 1.5" high base - doll is not attached to base. In good condition, but some wear visible around the medallion decorations - please see photos.
Your purchase will support The Green Chair Project, a home-furnishing nonprofit organization that supports families in need and in crisis.
