Each work is executed on thick stretched canvas using extensive impasto and palette-knife techniques, with substantial layers of paint creating an almost sculptural surface. Bold passages of black and deep crimson are contrasted with burnt gold, ochre and vibrant yellow, producing an atmospheric composition with considerable depth and movement. Originally acquired in Indonesia, the paintings have a powerful modern decorative quality. Their elongated vertical format and complementary compositions allow them to be displayed together as a dramatic pair, while each is substantial enough to function independently as a statement artwork. The extensive hand-worked texture is particularly impressive, with raised areas of pigment responding differently to changing light throughout the day. Their enormous proportions give the pair a commanding, gallery-like presence particularly suited to large contemporary interiors, double-height spaces, entrance halls, hotels, restaurants or statement residential settings. These are original hand-painted works rather than prints or factory-produced decorative canvases, with the individual palette-knife work and layered surfaces clearly visible throughout.
