Standing an impressive … Read more A substantial early 20th-century table lamp combining architectural bronze metalwork with an exceptional hand-moulded iridescent glass shade. Standing an impressive 69 cm tall, the lamp is constructed around a heavy bronze tubular column with decorative base and shoulder capitals. The column rises from a substantial four-step square plinth incorporating a brass-cased stabilising plate and brass cable-entry grommet, giving the piece considerable weight and presence. The lamp retains a late 19th-century-style bronze switched b22 bayonet bulb holder with bakelite twist-handle mechanism, together with a deep bowl-shaped ventilated bronze gallery and original locking bolts. Its most distinctive feature is the large early 20th-century acorn-form glass shade. Heavily moulded with pronounced vertical ribbing, the iridescent tinted glass takes on a particularly warm and atmospheric appearance when illuminated. Professionally rewired with period-appropriate fabric-braided cable, earthed and tested, the lamp also retains an early mk three-round-pin brown bakelite plug.
