The figure stretches horizontally across the composition, resting upon a vivid yellow-draped surface that creates a dramatic contrast with the darker, atmospheric background. Earthy browns, ochres, reds and deep tonal accents model the body, while loosely worked blues, greys and luminous passages behind the figure give the painting a distinctly painterly, studio-like atmosphere. The artist’s energetic application of paint gives the surface considerable depth and movement, with visible brushwork and heavily textured passages that become particularly effective under directional lighting. The deliberately expressive handling of anatomy, colour and perspective places the work within the tradition of late 20th-century European expressionist figurative painting. Dating to approximately the 1980s and signed to the reverse, this substantial original work has excellent decorative presence and would suit a contemporary interior, gallery wall or collection of modern figurative art. Presented unframed, allowing the painted surface and scale of the composition to remain the focus. The painting is in good vintage condition with minor age-related wear consistent with its age.
