An impressive french art deco figural lamp by max le verrier, dating to circa 1930 and identified as the celebrated danseuse à la coupe, model no. 3007. Produced by the max le verrier foundry in paris, the composition embodies the stylised elegance and theatrical movement for which le verrier’s art deco figures are renowned. The elongated female dancer is modelled with arms raised dramatically above her head, supporting the illuminated bowl and creating a striking sculptural silhouette. The figure is executed in bronzed metal and stands upon a substantial black marble base, providing a strong architectural contrast to the warm patinated surface of the sculpture. Above, the original two-part domed shade is fashioned from richly veined alabaster, softly diffusing the light and transforming the sculpture when illuminated. Standing 68 cm high, the lamp has substantial presence and functions equally as an important decorative sculpture and atmospheric lighting piece. The lamp retains a period bakelite crater inline switch and is fitted with an e14 bulb holder. A particularly desirable example of french interwar decorative lighting and an iconic expression of the art deco fascination with dance, movement and the female form.
