The substantial body is constructed from stacked geometric sections of marble, rising from a stepped rectangular plinth to create the strong architectural silhouette characteristic of late art deco design. The natural veining of the stone provides subtle variation and contrasts elegantly with the luminous glass above. The original 1940s opaline glass shade is particularly distinctive, featuring an angular cubist-inspired geometric form. When illuminated, the hand-moulded opaline glass softly diffuses the light while emphasising its faceted architectural profile. The lamp retains its original switched chrome-plated b22 bayonet bulb holder and period three-round-pin white bakelite plug. The underside of the marble base is finished with fine wool-mix green baize. Professionally rewired in period-appropriate three-core fabric-braided cable, earthed, tested and reported to be in perfect working order. A sophisticated statement lamp for an art deco, modernist or contemporary interior.
