This impressive fireplace displays exceptionally crisp decorative casting throughout, demonstrating the quality and attention to detail characteristic of late 19th-century British architectural ironwork. Its generous proportions and richly modelled ornament give the piece a commanding architectural presence. An original registration number dates the design to 1891, firmly placing the fireplace within the Victorian period and providing an important historical reference for the piece. Particularly noteworthy is the remarkable completeness of the fireplace. During the restoration process, all of its original components were successfully retained, with no replacement parts added. This preservation of the original elements enhances both the authenticity and historic character of the fireplace. The piece has undergone a comprehensive professional refurbishment. Historic layers of paint were painstakingly removed by hand rather than through shot blasting, helping to protect the cast iron surface and preserve the exceptional definition of the original decoration. Following stripping, the entire fireplace was carefully wire brushed to both the front and reverse. Traditional grate polish was then applied and buffed by brush, producing a rich dark metallic finish while highlighting the depth and crispness of the decorative casting. The reverse has also been professionally prepared and painted, ensuring that the fireplace has been comprehensively refurbished from front to back. with its documented 1891 date, complete original components, Cheltenham provenance and exceptional decorative casting, this is a particularly attractive example of an authentic Victorian combination fireplace. An imposing architectural feature ideally suited to a period restoration, drawing room, reception room or sophisticated interior requiring an original late 19th-century focal point. approx. measurements: height 1315mm(51.75") mantel width 835mm(32.75") width at feet 765mm(30.25") See less
