The composition features vibrant yellow and golden flowers with flowing green stems and foliage, dramatically contrasted against a deep black ground. Executed using the traditional tube-lining technique, the raised outlines define the floral forms while allowing the richly coloured glazes to retain their depth and lustrous appearance. Each tile has been individually produced and hand decorated in England, resulting in subtle variations in colour, glaze and finish that enhance the handcrafted character of the complete panel. The soft majolica-style glazes may display natural crazing associated with the thickness and character of this type of glaze. Increasingly difficult to find as a complete coordinated set, the 18 tiles form an impressive continuous decorative panel. They could be incorporated into a fireplace surround or hearth, used as an architectural feature within a kitchen or bathroom, or mounted and framed as a decorative wall panel. A highly decorative example of traditional English tile making, combining Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau influences with the rich colours associated with Victorian majolica.
