An exceptional English antique pendant light dating to the 1830s, combining elaborate brass, oxidised copper and wrought iron metalwork with a striking Vaseline glass tulip shade. The highly decorative open cage structure is constructed from cast brass and naturally oxidised copper, enriched with scrolling wrought iron supports and gilt copper acanthus-leaf ornamentation. An inverted lower framework with a twisted copper band gives the fixture an unusually sculptural and architectural profile. At its centre is a decorative drum-shaped chamber embellished with Art Nouveau-style foliate detailing and a solid bronze finial. Below, an ornate bronze cup gallery with deeply modelled decoration houses the original B22 bayonet-fit bulb holder. The centrepiece is the original UV-tested Vaseline glass shade, beautifully formed in a graceful tulip shape and seated within the bronze gallery. Its distinctive glass produces a particularly atmospheric effect when illuminated. The pendant is suspended from its original bronze chain and complemented by a large decorative, height-adjustable cone-shaped ceiling plate. It has been professionally and sympathetically rewired, tested and is reported to be in full working order.
