The composition depicts the three mythological Graces — traditionally associated with beauty, charm and creativity — standing closely entwined in an intimate circular grouping. Their gently inclined heads, interlocking arms and softly modelled figures create the remarkable sense of harmony and balance for which Canova’s original composition is renowned. Finely cast in marble resin, the sculpture recreates the pale appearance and smooth surface of carved marble while retaining crisp detail throughout the figures, hair, facial features and delicately arranged drapery. The restrained monochrome finish particularly emphasises the sculptural contours and classical purity of the composition. Produced as a Victoria and Albert Museum Edition, the piece reflects the enduring influence of Canova and the revival of Greco-Roman ideals that defined European Neoclassical sculpture. A refined decorative object with timeless appeal, equally suited to a classical interior, contemporary setting, library or collection of Grand Tour and museum-inspired works of art.
