The tabletop is extensively hand-carved with a central rooster surrounded by scrolling foliage and floral decoration, framed by multiple geometric and ornamental borders. The depth and density of the carving give the piece a particularly rich and sculptural appearance. The table displays a strong Oriental and Chinese Chippendale influence, combining exotic decorative motifs with a traditional European tilt-top table form. The carving continues onto the supporting structure and legs, creating an attractive piece from every angle. A traditional tilt-top mechanism allows the circular top to be raised vertically, significantly reducing the table's footprint for storage or display. This practical feature also allows the carved surface to be appreciated almost as a decorative panel when the table is not in use. The richly aged oak has developed an attractive dark colour and patina, enhancing the depth of the carving and giving the table considerable antique character. An unusual statement piece suitable as an occasional table, side table, lamp table, centre table or decorative display piece within a country house, library, hallway, period or eclectic interior. Presented in good antique condition with expected age-related marks, surface wear and variations to the finish consistent with age and previous use.
