Signed by the artist and dated 1995 lower right, the work combines expressive draughtsmanship with a bold yet restrained use of colour. Roche renders the figures with loose, confident lines and softly worked passages of pastel, using warm orange and white highlights against areas of deep green and black. One figure is shown standing frontally with her arms raised, while the second is viewed from behind, creating an engaging study of the human form from opposing perspectives. The deliberately economical treatment of facial features and background places emphasis on gesture, contour and form, giving the composition a distinctly modern character. The muted paper ground provides an effective contrast to the stronger passages of colour and contributes to the immediacy of the drawing. Presented under glass with a broad mount in a simple dark frame, the work has considerable decorative presence and would complement both contemporary and traditional interiors. An appealing original work for collectors of figurative art, life drawings and late 20th-century works on paper.
